Abstract
The importance of regulatory challenges and policy alignments is fundamental to the governance of platform-based tourism. As a result, the need to secure safe and trustworthy ambiance for users and the necessity to reduce risks are often linked with harmful interactions that may emerge; subsequently, the significance of promoting responsible behaviour is at the centre of the platform governance. Thus, policies on data protection and privacy can be enforced to help safeguard users’ rights. Based on the challenging nature of platform governance, efforts are still being put in place to ensure safe and trustworthy environment for its users, thus, responsible behaviours can be promoted and the need to mitigate risks that maybe associated with harmful operation of the system becomes critical. Furthermore, clarity and enforceable policies can be used to resolve dispute resolution systems. The conceptual framework, which is known as deliberative governance for tourism platforms, is aimed to stress on the principles of participatory design systems where tourism platforms are often managed through a process of reasoned discussion and collective decision-making among various stakeholders that are aiming for more fair and sustainable tourism outcomes. Thus, power-dependence theory and citizens’ assembly illustrate certain key considerations for deliberative governance across three major aspects.
