Tackling Child Exploitation Support Programme

Between 2019-2022, the TCE programme worked with local areas to support the development and delivery of effective strategic responses to child exploitation and extra-familial harm by:

Working on evidence-informed, bespoke projects in local areas, developed with strategic leaders, with the aim of enhancing and improving responses to child exploitation and extra-familial harm.

Providing an open-access website hosting a range of resources, including research briefings and tools, to support local areas to develop their strategic response to extra-familial harm and child exploitation.

The programme covered different forms of child exploitation and extra-familial harm, including child sexual exploitation, child criminal exploitation, county lines, modern slavery and trafficking.

TCE was evidence-informed and developed with the sector to reflect and build on existing knowledge and practice, demonstrating our commitment to building capacity and enabling sustainable change.

Between 2022 and 2023, the TCE team was re-commissioned to develop a set of Practice Principles for responding to child exploitation and extra-familial harm. Non-statutory guidance, endorsed cross-government, the Practice Principles are designed to support effective partnership working across different local contexts; providing a common language and framework to better respond to child exploitation and extra-familial harm.
