Jon Hitchcock obtained a degree in mathematics at the University of Cambridge and then started a career in the computer industry. This included long periods of working for GEC Computers in Dunstable and Borehamwood, and for Uniplex in Hemel Hempstead.
Only after this did he study for a computing qualification, obtaining an MSc in Internet Computing (with distinction) from the University of Luton in 2004.
Jon worked as a demonstrator in the Computing Labs at Luton campus before taking up a studentship to do research on Automated Processing and Analysis of Gas Chromatography / Mass Spectrometry Screening Data.
He was awarded a PhD for this research in 2009. He continued to work as a demonstrator, and was appointed as a lecturer in 2011, being promoted to senior lecturer in 2018.
Dr Jon Hitchcock is the Executive Chair for the ACE- 2021 Workshop.
