Abstract

It is a truism to state that all activity in any society takes place through people acting together. It is unsurprising therefore that so much attention has been devoted over the last century and a half to a consideration of how organisations fit within society and how they can be structured to improve the contribution they make to society and to the improvement (or otherwise) of all our lives. And contributions are from all over the world, reflecting both the fact that management and its future is a worldwide concern and also the fact that best practice can be found in many parts of the world. Financial management also concerns the management of the resources of the organisation in the present so that it will be possible to continue to create value in the future.
