Schemes of learning, sequences of learning and lesson planning

Abstract

In this unit, you will learn essential skills for effective lesson planning across different time scales. You will explore how to create schemes of learning for long-term planning, sequences of learning for medium-term planning and detailed lesson plans for individual sessions. You will understand the crucial differences between learning intentions and learning outcomes, and discover how to write these to support and assess pupil progress. Through practical tasks and examples, you will reflect on how you learn, develop your ability to plan lessons and sequences, including writing measurable learning intentions and outcomes. This unit will help you balance the critical role of planning whilst managing your time efficiently, including collaborative planning and the critical use of existing resources.
