Description
All health and social care curricula must be updated for the integration of services to become a statute in 2022. This is necessary to make sure that programs actively reflect the current shift towards integrated services and to adequately prepare recently qualified professionals for the increasingly integrated care systems they will work within. The goal of this project is to create a completely
integrated curriculum model that is accessible to all undergraduates.
integrated curriculum model that is accessible to all undergraduates.
Layman's description
This project developed a new curriculum framework to help undergraduate health and social care students at the University of Bedfordshire learn how integrated care works in practice. Integrated care means different services, professionals and organisations working together more closely to support people’s health, care and wellbeing. As health and social care services are increasingly expected to work in this joined-up way, students need to be prepared for the kinds of teams and systems they will work in after qualifying.
The project aimed to make sure that teaching across health and social care courses reflects the move towards integrated services. It involved developing a curriculum model that can be used with undergraduate students, shaped by evidence and input from relevant stakeholders. The framework is designed to help students understand collaboration, person-centred care, equality and diversity, and the importance of working across professional boundaries.
The project has now been completed, and the framework is being embedded into University of Bedfordshire curricula. Its impact will be seen in how future health and social care professionals are trained to work more collaboratively, support joined-up care, and meet the changing needs of local communities and services.
