Description

The goal of the University of Bedfordshire's (UoB) "Integrated Placement Experience" (IPE) program is to create a learning environment that integrates social work. The project places Nursing Associate apprentices into integrated care settings to explore their learning and experiences of integrated care. The project will also evaluate the operational processes required to create and sustain these placements.

Layman's description

The Integrated Placement Experience, or IPE project, looked at whether students from different health and social care courses could learn together in real integrated care settings. The project focused on Nursing Associate apprentices and Social Work students from the University of Bedfordshire, giving them the opportunity to experience how different professionals work together to support people’s health, care and wellbeing.

The project aimed to increase the number and range of placement opportunities available to students, while also helping them understand how integrated health and social care works in practice. It explored what students and apprentices learned during these placements, what support staff needed to supervise different student groups, and how service users experienced receiving care from students in integrated settings.

This project has now been completed, and the placement has become part of the University’s normal placement offer. The findings will help the University and local partners develop more placement opportunities, strengthen the future health and social care workforce, and support services that are more joined-up, inclusive and centred around the needs of patients and service users.
