DrKay Calver

Accepting new Phd students

I have worked in the field of education for over fifteen years and have a professional background in sexual health and youth work. I am a Registered Trauma-Informed Practitioner with TISCUK.

I started working in higher education in 2013 and have taught on a range of courses focusing on the lives and experiences of children, young people and families.

My research interests broadly relate to youth transitions, inequality and constructions of risk. Many of my research publications relate to the portrayal of higher education in television and documentary media as part of the ongoing Students on Screen research project. Trauma-informed practice is also one of my core research interests. I am especially interested in how trauma-informed practices can be further developed and implemented in the context of higher education.

Professional Networks and Membership: I am part of the steering committee for the international Trauma Informed Approaches to Higher Education (TIA-HE) Network and the Co-Lead for the Community and Communications Workstream.

I am a member of the Philosophy of Education Society of Great Britain (PESGB).

Other projects: I am the producer and host for the 'Working with Children and Young People podcast'. The podcast features special guests to explore different career options relating to working with children and young people. Listen on all major podcasting platforms.
