Teaching teachers: reflections from English teacher educators

Abstract

This article considers English teaching practice from the perspective of two teacher educators. It starts at the point of recruitment and gender, discusses how English teachers are trained, moves onto what the teacher educators have seen on their numerous annual visits to English departments within many schools, it reflects on the examination system before concluding with some important reflections.
