Abstract
Security is of paramount importance to the design of modern communication systems and in particular, wireless ad hoc networks. This paper reviews key management and authentication protocols recently proposed in the literature for the provision of security in ad hoc networks and analyses their advantages and disadvantages. Subsequently, a novel authenticated key management framework is proposed from which protocols that provide the principle security requirements of ad hoc networks can be developed
