Abstract
This chapter examines how emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR), blockchain, the Internet of Things (IoT), and Big Data analytics, are reshaping tourism platforms into immersive, personalized, and participatory ecosystems. It offers a conceptual framework that maps technological enablers, platform functions, and associated benefits and controversies such as ethical concerns, digital divides, and cultural representation. The chapter presents two case studies from developing destinations like Luang Prabang and Vang Vieng (Laos), showcasing their use of digital storytelling to influence identity and visitor experiences. It concludes with governance recommendations for ethical, inclusive, and sustainable platform innovation.
