Inclusion through participation in communities of practice in schools

Issues around inclusion of all pupils in schools continue to be a major concern of parents, educators, politicians and providers of professional development for teachers and academics. There is, as well, confusion as to what inclusion means in theory or in practice. The notion of a community of practice is becoming increasingly popular in all Western education systems. It provides a useful framework for conceptualizing practical, optimal ways for promoting the participation of all students.
