Biography

Upul was born and brought up in Sri Lanka, studied in the Royal College, Colombo.

He became a commissioned Officer in the Sri Lanka Navy, served for 23 years in the Marine Engineering branch and retired as a Captain in 2012. During the service, acquired BTech degree from JNU – India, Marine Engineering Specialization from CMET- INS Shivaji, India and MSc (Mech) from NUST – Pakistan.

Employed as the General Manager in state owned company ‘Lanka Phosphate Limited’.

Upul subsequently took up a job in the Royal Navy of Oman on Sultanate of Oman as the Warranty Manager and then Platform Group 1 Manager. During the time, he was elected as a Director of the Board of Directors of Sri Lankan School-Muscat for 2 years.

In 2019, he entered University of Sussex – UK and completed the MSc (Advance Mechanical Engineering) with merit.

Joined National Autistic Society in the Adults care sector, completed apprenticeship level III qualification prior to joining UBEDS.

Upul is a Chartered Engineer in Sri Lanka, maintains memberships at IESL and IMarEST (UK), he is also a life-long member of Wildlife and Nature Protection Society, Sri Lanka.
