Irena Gil

Irena graduated from the University of Bedfordshire in 2022 with a First Class BA (Hons) in Photography and returned soon after as a member of technical staff. Having been both a student and Senior Technician, she knows the Alexon building from both sides and can use that experience to improve how the facilities work.

Irena's role is centred on photography and print, ranging from studio and digital workflows to processes such as 3D Workshop, Riso and digital textile printing.

Irena takes care of equipment and health and safety for her area but is equally focused on modernising the way work is carried out by developing clearer guides, introducing booking systems, and streamlining spaces so they are more efficient and accessible.

Outside of her technical role, Irena continues her own photography practice and has exhibited in group shows. She is interested in how creative spaces can contiue to evolve, combining practical skills with new ideas, to give students the best possible environment for their work.
