Description
A seminar series in which the state of schooled, or subject, English is considered, with particular focus on the continuities and discontinuities across secondary and university English. The seminar series brought together expert speakers from a range of institutional and intra-disciplinary contexts. The seminar series has led to a collaborative research project with the English Dpt. at Forest School (London): university and secondary educators will collaborate to produce a series of "research vignettes," each of which is reflective of the teacher-writer's interests and concerns. The project takes place against a political backdrop in which English at universities is in an increasingly parlous state, even as it retains a central position in secondary education. The project also unfolds against the backdrop of the recent Curriculum and Assessment Review and the as yet unanswered question of what the review will look like in practice.
